System Description of BJTU-NLP SMT for NTCIR-9 PatentMT
This paper presents the overview of statistical machine translation systems that BJTU-NLP developed for the NTCIR-9 Patent Machine Translation Task (NTCIR-9 PatentMT). We compared the performance between phrase-based translation model and factored translation model in our Patent SMT of Chinese to English and English to Japanese. Factored translation model was proposed as an extended phrase-base...
متن کاملExploiting Linguistically-Enriched Models for Phrase-Based Statistical Machine Translation
This thesis presents the design and implementation of linguistically-informed models for statistical phrase-based machine translation. Using Koehn's Pharaoh (2004), a state-of-the-art SMT system, and Moses (Hoang, 2006), a variant of the former which supports factored translation models, we have investigated two approaches: Combined Feature Models and Factored Models. While Combined Feature Mod...
متن کاملFactored Translation between Brazilian Portuguese and English
Factored translation is an extension of the state-of-theart phrase-based statistical machine translation (PB-SMT). The main difference in factored translation approach is that a word is not only a token (its surface form) but a vector composed of different information such as lemma, part-of-speech or morphologic/syntactic tags. In this paper we present some experiments carried out to train and ...
متن کاملPre-Reordering for Neural Machine Translation: Helpful or Harmful?
Pre-reordering, a preprocessing to make the source-side word orders close to those of the target side, has been proven very helpful for statistical machine translation (SMT) in improving translation quality. However, is it the case in neural machine translation (NMT)? In this paper, we firstly investigate the impact of pre-reordered source-side data onNMT, and then propose to incorporate featur...
متن کاملSegmentation for English-to-Arabic Statistical Machine Translation
In this paper, we report on a set of initial results for English-to-Arabic Statistical Machine Translation (SMT). We show that morphological decomposition of the Arabic source is beneficial, especially for smaller-size corpora, and investigate different recombination techniques. We also report on the use of Factored Translation Models for Englishto-Arabic translation.
